Santa Cruz Skateboards sponsored event in Portland Oregon. This was the final piece up for auction along with many other custom decks from all over the U.S. and beyond. Initially, I didn’t have the maggots but hey… this was a low-brow art convention… AND its called GROSS ENCOUNTERS for a reason. All hand-drawn with Uni-Posca markers on top of a base layer of a distressed tobacco burst guitar lacquer. The entire process was a lot of fun AND I got high praise from this sick deck. I would love to participate in this again! The inspiration for the art was Big Foot’s barking dogs… I mean they’ve gotta be barking with all that running around—hiding from folks, right?

We’re living in strange times and I find myself asking the same question the caterpillar asked in Alice… in Wonderland. Who… are… you? This was initially hand-drawn on illustration board but is now being finessed/cleaned up digitally. More on this soon. - ®Rix 01-16-20

This poster represents my personal creative process by solving a specific problem through research, exploration and execution. Once I found a viable solution to the particular question at hand, the task was to visually represent the process I used to arrive at the solution. I found that my personal process was non linear and worked a lot like navigating a needle and thread in and out of the scope of the project. At times my process was definitely misguided but the needle always seemed to keep pushing me towards the ultimate solution. 

A Tide-Remington product specially formulated to remove blood stains. Marketing started with targeting hunters but quickly evolved into other potential areas of need.

The Creative Co-Pilot is a tool designed specifically for undergraduate visual communication students. There are three main components to this tool. First, there is an electronic version for use in the virtual realm. Second, there is a hard cover booklet for those moments that you are away from technology. Finally, the tool also comes as an application for the iphone for those moments on the go. The mission statement for the Creative Co Pilot is as follows: 

Creative co-pilot encourages innovative solutions to visual communicators via interactive drills, project awareness and intellectual thinking—regardless of the medium. 

Photography exhibition featuring Texas A&M-Commerce Veterans. Members of the group created all photographs exhibited. 

*The business class that we were enrolled in required us to volunteer time and services to a deserving group or organization. We couldn’t think of a group that we would like to help more than the veterans of this country. We decided to work together with the TAMUC Veterans Affairs office to put together a photo exhibition that coincided with this Veterans Day, 2011. 

Operating as university faculty members, we were tasked with creating a “from scratch” BFA curriculum in Visual Communications that could actually be adopted by an accredited university. We created a school catalog for a hypothetical university (The Boulder Institute) to showcase our work. Within can be found general school information such as its mission statement, philosophy, accreditations, and history. Dominating the catalog, however, is its curriculum, including core foundation courses, university studies, degree program, and course descriptions. Several specific courses are explored fully with syllabi, course objectives, schedule, and assignments for each.
